09-08-2011: ZTE partners with BSNL to spruce up broadband connectivity in India....

KOLKATA: Chinese telecoms equipment maker ZTE Corp on Monday said it had entered into a strategic partnership with state-owned Bharat Sanchar Ni-gam Ltd (BSNL) to step up broadband services across the country.

Under the partnership, ZTE will deploy ultra high-speed ADSL2 + and next generation VDSL2+ broadband devices across BSNL networks in 15 circles.

"Internet access and broadband penetration is an integral part of a coun-try's growth. We are pleased to partner with BSNL to make broadband con-nectivity more widely accessible in India. We have associated with BSNL for over a decade now," ZTE India CEO Cui Liangjun said in a media statement.

Combined with this project, ZTE will command nearly 45% of BSNL's DSL market-share. This is the third time ZTE has won a DSL project from BSNL. Till date, the Chinese broadband equipment vendor has supplied some 30,000 DSLAMs to BSNL.

The deployment is expected to shore up the reach and quality of BSNL's fixed network broadband services across the country and address the requirements of future multimedia broadband services there.

China's ZTE has already deployed over 3 million subscriber broadband units for BSNL. Some 80% of the networks equipped with units use ADSL2+ while the remaining 20% use VDSL2+.
