05-09-2012: Overburdened with loss and outstanding BSNL is on nationwide recovery drive....ET


SILIGURI: After recording loss of over Rs 8000 crore in FY 2011-2012, BSNL is now keen on recovery of its over Rs 5000 crore accumulated outstanding.
As a part of its nationwide recovery drive, authirity in Siliguiri Telecome Disrict, under West Bengal Circle, has announced special waiver scheme and a schedule of outstanding recovery camp
According to Mr. A Dakua, General Manager BSNL, Siliguri Telecom District that covers Darjeeling hills too, total accumulated pending bill volume of his telecom disrict is Rs 25.5 crores.
Out of which, Rs 17 crore is for the land lines and Rs 4 is for GSM service. Contribution of Darjeeling hills area in the pending land line bill is over Rs 10 crore.
Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, that party that rules the present administrative body of Darjeeling hils Gorklhaland Territorial Administration had called for a Bill Boycott call in 2008 as a part of their movement. That caused a heavy accumulation of pending bills in the hills.
Our of total 46,000 land lines, near 10,000 are from Hills. BSNL authority has announced schedule of a series of bill recover camps. "Any one wiling to clear up his pending bills in these camps will be offered 10% to 50% waiver depending upon individual case," said Mr. Dakua.
"This is a part of our national strategy and similar initiative is being taken in different other parts of the country too. We are determined to recover as much as possible," said Mr. Dakua.
BSNL has a load of over Rs 5000 crore accumulated outstanding. Its loss for 2011-12 has been recorded as Rs 8000 crore after steady decline since the year 2004-05 in which its profit was Rs 10,183 crore...ET
